A candidate can address many topics, but I want to highlight three that I see as top priorities.
Increase CREB® Membership Engagement
I have discussed membership engagement with CREB® members and members from other boards in Alberta and BC and there is a common issue with membership engagement. Many boards have an engagement level of about 3-5% which is quite low and CREB® likely falls into this range. I have already created an action plan involving current CREB® resources to help increase volunteer and membership engagement. It will take more than me to increase engagement, but I know CREB® has the right tools and people to do so. During my tenure as Vice President on my previous committee, I successfully filled all committee seats and maintained a waitlist of engaged members. I aim to bring this same level of success to CREB®.
Continuously Keep CREB® Education Updated
Education is a complex topic, especially with RECA overseeing the exams and third parties now handling the education. CREB® has grown by 3000+ agents since October 2020, and we continue to grow every month, representing about a 55% increase in growth. While we cannot control what other organizations do, CREB® can take control of the onboarding courses they make mandatory for new members and what classes they offer existing members. We need to prioritize and review these courses to ensure that proper ethics and rules are instilled in all members.
As a board, we can look into implementing new mandatory courses for agents and brokers during renewal, in person mandatory courses for new agents, and more. As our membership continues to grow, we must stay ahead to prevent falling behind.
Adapt to External Factors
CREB® needs to stay aware of how venture capital is shaping the real estate industry by keeping an eye on new investments and political changes. As more money flows into areas like property evaluation, buying and selling technology, and real estate services, the board should track where these investments are going and which new companies are emerging. It’s also important to stay informed about political decisions and their short- and long-term effects. There is a lot of unknowns at the moment but by watching these trends, CREB® can better understand how new technology and how the politic climate may impact industry standards, member practices, and customer needs, allowing us to adapt and stay ahead.
